$5,000 Wendy’s High School Heisman Grant

Native Americans who play a sport throughout high school may want to apply for the $5,000 Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship. The grant is given out to a high school student each year and is offered by the fast food restaurant chain Wendy’s. The grant is given out a high school senior and is used to attend the accredited college of their choice. This grant is open to everyone who plays high school sports, including Native Americans.

The Wendy’s High School Heisman has been given out each year for over two decades. The program was started by the fast food restaurant’s founder, Dave Thomas. Although he was a very successful entrepreneur, he had dropped out of high school at the age of 15, so that he could work full time. While this route worked for him, he wanted to encourage other young people to attend college, so after going back to earn his general equivalency diploma, at the age of 61, he started the Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship. The program recognizes great high school athletes and gives out grants to help pay for a college education.

The grant is open to Native Americans who have participated in one of the 47 approved sports. The approved list of sports includes such things as baseball, basketball, soccer, and football, but it also includes such sports as archery, equestrian, bobsleigh, rowing, water polo, judo, skateboarding, and much more. Any student that has been active in some type of sport may find that their chosen sport is on approved list.

There is more than one recipient that receives money from the grant. While the top grant that is given out each year is the $5,000 one, which goes to one male and one female, there are others as well. There are also one male and one female that receive a $500 grant from each state, and there are 10 National Finalists, which includes five females and five males, who receive $1,000 grant each.

The qualifications for the $5,000 Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship include:

  • Participation in one of 47 approved sports that are sponsored by your school.
  • A grade point average of at least a 3.0.
