Here are some of the important details to keep in mind about the $5,000 Chevron Scholarships:

  • The $5,000 Chevron Scholarships are open to all Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Hawaiian Natives. There is no age limit for this scholarship. It is open to all age groups.
  • The scholarship is open to all those pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a STEM field. The STEM field degree programs that are eligible include computer science, earth sciences, engineering, health environment and safety, and naval architecture. The engineering degree areas that are eligible for the scholarship program include chemical, civil, electrical, geological, geophysical, mechanical, or petroleum.
  • To qualify, you must attend full time at an accredited four-year university or college. You also have to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
  • Applicants must also be an enrolled Tribal member. They have to be enrolled, or be the descendant of someone enrolled, in a federal or state recognized Native American tribe, Alaska Native Village, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander. You will have to provide a birth certificate, showing your native status or that you are a descendant from a native citizen. Alternatively, Native Americans can submit a copy of their Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood or Certificate of Degree of Alaska Native Blood card. Applicants who cannot prove that they meet the native requirements will automatically be disqualified.
  • Those who apply will also need to be verifiable members of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society. The organization has a student network of over 4,000 people.
  • Applicants must demonstrate they have knowledge about Chevron and the energy industry by writing an essay. This can be accomplished by researching the company and field in-depth and then writing an academic essay demonstrating that you have an understanding of both the company and the field.
  • They begin taking applications each year in December. Applications are due each year by the end of March. Award notifications are given out beginning in May.
